We are interested in the future of spiritual formation, but we are not interested in leaving the ancient world behind.
We believe the future may require us to recover something humanity has always known: we are embodied beings, and what happens in the body matters. By bringing ancient wisdom into conversation with contemporary understanding of the senses, the brain, creativity, and embodied experience, El-Nahara explores new ways of encountering and responding to God through the very bodies He designed.
The Work of El-Nahara
Our Biblical Anointing Oils draw from the plants, resins, spices, woods, and fragrances that form part of the biblical world and the history of Christian anointing and fragrance. Each oil is created with attention to its botanical character, sensory experience, and the story or scriptural meaning it carries.Our Sensory Boxes extend that experience beyond fragrance. They bring together elements such as story, visual experience, sound, touch, breath, reflection, and guided practice to create a more immersive way of engaging a particular theme. They are designed to move something from the abstract into the tangible, to give an idea, Scripture, season, or invitation a physical place to be experienced.The goal is not to manufacture an encounter with God or replace spiritual formation with sensory experience. The goal is to create intentional spaces where we can slow down, pay attention, remember, and respond.
